Product Description

Australian Lemon Myrtle is a uniquely refreshing and exquisitely aromatic “tisane” from the coastal rainforests of eastern Australia. Contains lemon myrtle, lemongrass and lime and lemon. Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) is a native Australian tree growing naturally from Brisbane to Rockhampton in a range of altitudes from 50 to over 800 m above sea level. The Sunshine Coast and Proserpine area are identified as main areas of natural strands.  Lemon Myrtle is a superb tea product as a herbal infusion!

The key ingredient in lemon myrtle is the high concentration of citral in its leaves. Citral comprises 90-98% of the essential oils in lemon myrtle, as opposed to less than 10% in lemons and limes. Some of the characteristics of citral include:

  • Citral is an anti-fungal agent.
  • Citral is non-acidic.
  • Citral is high in anti-oxidants.

The list of reputed health benefits of lemon myrtle tea is voluminous. Just some of the disorders it is said to be able to relieve include muscle cramps and spasms, rheumatism, headaches and fevers. Scientific studies have indicated that citral can inhibit the growth of the pathogen which is one of the causes of many gastro-duodenal diseases, including ulcers. It is also said to aid in the reduction of cellulite and the anti-oxidants in citral help boost the immune system. A pleasant tasting tea, it is used alone or in combination with green tea as a caffeine free replacement for coffee and black tea.

Received this tea as a gift and liked it so well that I ordered more when I used it up. Soothing tea.

The product is great. It is somewhat expensive, however.

I tried this tea last outside the Chattanooga Aquarium, I wanted to buy some but they didn't have any, but when I got home I went to the Sweettea website & I was in heaven!!! I've never liked tea in general- the taste I did not like it, but this lemon myrtle taste just like lemonade which I love!! You have a customer for LIFE!!

I first tried this tea last year at a farmer's market and never forgot it. When I saw the vendors this year at arts festivals in Atlanta, I fell in love with the great lemon flavor of this tea all over again and decided to take the leap and buy my own batch of the tea leaves. It's my first time brewing tea leaves, but it turned out great; I added a little turbinado sugar to 8oz of water, 1 tsp of tea leaves. VERY glad I purchased it.
